Multi-Seed-Tutorial

necklace

Here's how to make the necklace to the right.

You need:

  • A beading needle
  • Thread
  • Seed beads in many colours
  • Two calotte crimps
  • a clasp

This is very easy. You make a string of beads, and then you make another string on top of it which weaves in and out of the first. I didn't use a pattern.

To begin, thread your needle with a long length of thread, at least twice the length of your finished necklace. Thread on one bead in any colour and move it close to the end of your thread. Knot the thread round it - this is your stopper bead. String seed beads in sets of three - three red, three blue, three clear, whatever you like. When your necklace seems to be the right length, add another extra bead at the end, and knot the thread round that, in such a way that the necklace is not too tight, and not too loose. We'll refer to the string you have just made as the 'first string'.

Make sure you have enough thread to work all the way back to the other end of your necklace. Go through the second stopper bead, and out. Thread on three beads. Look at the first string of beads. Skip the first set of three, and put your needle through the second three. Come out, add three more beads, and carry on. When you get back to the first stopper bead, knot the thread through it again.

Make sure the thread is securely knotted at each end. Cut off the tails of thread, and put a calotte crimp over each stopper bead (use a dab of glue if you feel it necessary). Attach your clasp to the crimp, and you're done!
