Sunbeam Baby Quick Knit

Sunbeam Baby Quick Knit - this is a toddlers jumper. Mostly to see if I can make anything wearable. Has a small pattern on the front which I assumed was a small bit of cabling, but this aint the case. I'll type up the panel pattern on the page if you fancy a look! The pattern (Sunbeam 192, cost 9p) is for a twinset so also includes a cardigan, I'll see if I fancy making this afterwards. Pattern cost me 20p from charity shop, yay. Will fit 18-22 inch chest.

Pattern indicates no 10 and no 12 needles in old UK sizes. This is 3 1/4mm and 2 3/4mm respectively, according to this site - but seeing as the smallest I have are 3 3/4 and 4mm I might see how that works out. I'm using Sirdar Snuggly, baby yarn there, marvellous.

PROGRESS UPDATE: Back finished and cast off VERY LOOSELY with scrap yarn at the top. Front started! I've done two panels worth of this pattern, and you know what? Because the yarn is so bobbly you can barely see anything there at all!! I'm hoping it looks a bit more obvious once I'm a little further into it.

FURTHER PROGRESS: time to start the sleeves and and neckband. Now this is where it gets difficult and I have to learn how to actually finish things. Urgh.

Potential worry: tension. I am knitting the front a lot tighter than I did the back and worry it will show to some bad effect when I end up putting the bits together. Am pondering whether judicious blocking will solve this, cos doing the whole back again would be a chiz and a half.

Twisted Pattern:

  • 1: p1, k1 tbl, p1, k3, p1, k1 tbl, p1
  • 2: k1, p1 tbl, k1, p3, k1, p1 tbl, k1
  • 3: p1, k1 tbl, p1, k3, sl the first of these 3 sts over the other 2, p1, k1 tbl, p1
  • 4: k1, p1 tbl, k1, p2, k1, p1 tbl, k1
  • 5: p1, k1 tbl, p1, k1, yfwd, k1, p1, k1 tbl, p1

2nd to 5th rows form the repeat of pattern. When counting sts always count after a 2nd or 5th patt row.
