See Kake's Noro Coat for what went before. I'm going to try doing it in strips this time.

First strip

  • Cast on 17 with the provisional cast-on. Work 1 row in K to get the stitches off the provisional cast-on.
  • Row 1 (RS): s1p, k to end.
  • Row 2: s1p, p to last st, k1.
  • Rows 3-20: Repeat rows 1 and 2 nine times.
  • Row 21: s1p, k to end.
  • Row 22 (boundary row): s1p, k to end.
  • Row 23: s1p, (p1, k1) to end.
  • Rows 24-43: Repeat row 23 twenty times.
  • Row 44 (boundary row): s1p, k to end.
  • Rows 45-176: Repeat rows 1-44 three times.
  • Row 177: s1p, k to end.
  • Row 178: s1p, p to last st, k1.
  • Rows 179-186: Repeat rows 177 and 178 four times.
  • Row 187: s1p, k to end. Do not turn.

Without breaking yarn, pick up and knit 93 stitches down the left side of your strip. These will be used to attach the next strip of knitting as you go along.

Second strip

Cast 17 stitches on to the needle without stitches on (probably your left-hand needle) using the provisional cast-on. Again without breaking yarn, k along these to the end to get them off the provisional cast-on. You should now have 127 stitches on your needle. You will be working with the leftmost 18 only in each row.

  • Row 1 (WS): s1p, (k1, p1) seven times, k1, p2tog.
  • Row 2: p1, (k1, p1) seven times, k2.
  • Rows 3-22: Repeat rows 1 and 2 ten times.
  • Row 23: s1p, k15, p2tog.
  • Row 24: k to end.
  • Row 25: s1p, p15, p2tog.
  • Rows 26-43: Repeat rows 24-25 nine times.
  • Row 44: k to end.
  • Row 45: s1p, k15, p2tog.
  • Rows 46-177: Repeat rows 2-45 three times.
  • Row 178: As row 2.
  • Row 179-188: Repeat rows 1-2 five times. You should now be level with the top of strip 1 and have 34 stitches. Slip the stitches from strip 1 onto a holder if you like.
  • Row 189: s1p, (k1, p1) seven times, k2, turn.
  • Rows 190-198: Repeat row 189 nine times.
  • Row 199: s1p, k16, turn.
  • Row 200: s1p, k16, turn.
  • Row 201: s1p, p15, k1, turn.
  • Row 202-219: Repeat rows 200-201 seventeen times.
  • Row 220: s1p, k16. Do not turn.

Without breaking yarn, pick up and knit 110 stitches down the left side of your strip.

Third strip

Cast 17 stitches on to the needle without stitches on (probably your left-hand needle) using the provisional cast-on. Again without breaking yarn, k along these to the end to get them off the provisional cast-on. You should now have 151 stitches on your needle, or 134 if you slipped the first strip's stitches onto a holder.. You will be working with the leftmost 18 only in each row.

  • Row 1 (WS): s1p, p15, p2tog, turn.
  • Row 2: k to end.
  • Row 3-22: Repeat rows 1-2 ten times.
  • Row 23 (boundary row): s1p, k15, p2tog, turn.
  • Row 24: p1, (k1, p1) seven times, k2.
  • Row 25: s1p, (k1, p1) seven times, k1, p2tog, turn.
  • Rows 26-43: Repeat rows 24-25 nine times.
  • Row 44: As row 24.
  • Row 45 (boundary row): s1p, k15, p2tog, turn.
  • Rows 46-133: Repeat rows 2-45 twice.
  • Rows 134-155: Repeat rows 2-23.
  • Rows 156-165: Repeat rows 24-25 five times.
