Back, first piece

  • Cast on 130 stitches using a provisional cast-on.
  • Work seven rows in moss stitch with a selvedge [always slip first st purlwise, always k last st].
  • sl1p, ms4, k to last 5 st, ms 4, k1.
  • sl1p, ms4, p to last 5 st, ms4, k1.
  • Repeat last two rows four times for a total of 8 rows.
  • s1p, ms4, k to last 10 st, wrap next st, turn.
  • p to last 10 st, wrap next st, turn.
  • k to last 11 st, wrap, turn.
  • p to last 11 st, wrap, turn.
  • repeat until you're purling to last 14 st, wrap, turn.

Work as for Back, first piece.

joining the pieces

  • working on front piece, s1p, ms4, k to last 5 st. Place Back piece alongside front and work 5 moss stitch, working one stitch from front along with one stitch from back each time (this needs better explanation). k to last 5 st of back, do the joining trick again.
  • work 2 rounds keeping the moss stitch columns.
  • work 1 round doing purls instead of the moss stitch column.
  • work 4 rounds in stocking stitch.
  • work from chart at each side "seam".
