Historical version 3 of Kake's Shiny Blanket (view current version)
Yarn
Ten 50g (117m, 128yd) balls of Georges Picaud "Rebelle", bought from ebay for £8.72 in December 2003. The ball band recommends a gauge of 24 stitches and 32 rows per 10cm (4in) square, on 3.5mm (UK size 9, US size 4) needles. 66% viscose, 17% cotton and 17% acrylic. The main colour is silvery (viscose), with little slubs of a sage-green poking out every so often (cotton and acrylic).
This yarn is available much more cheaply from Dianne's - http://www.cpu-enterprises.com/gp/rebelle_m.htm
Project
I'm making myself a crochet blanket in diagonal box stitch using a 4mm hook. Because the construction goes diagonally, I'll figure out the size (and whether I'll need more yarn) once I see where I am after 5 balls.
I learnt this stitch from Crochet Cabana.
