(UK treble crochet is called "double crochet" in the US. And yes, UK double crochet is "single crochet" over the pond.)

Method

Yarn round hook, insert hook in next stitch, yarn round hook and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn round hook and pull through first two loops on hook (2 loops on hook), yarn round hook and pull through final two loops on hook.

Decreasing

To decrease one stitch: *(yarn round hook, insert hook in next stitch, yarn round hook and pull up a loop, yarn round hook and pull through first two loops on hook), repeat from * once, yarn round hook and pull through all three loops on hook.

Variations

  • Linked treble crochet - Instead of doing a simple "yarn round hook" to start each stitch, put the hook through the fabric from front to back between the last two trebles worked, yarn round hook and pull through a loop. Linked treble crochet gives a denser fabric than plain treble crochet.
